Iran Rejects Suspension Of Uranium Acquisition Amid Nuclear Negosisia With US
JAKARTA - Iran has refused to consider a temporary suspension of uranium enrichment to secure a nuclear deal with the US. There is currently no date set for the sixth round of talks with Washington.
Negotiations between Washington and Tehran aim to resolve decades of dispute over Iran's nuclear ambitions. Both sides have taken a tough stand in public over the issue of enrichment of Iran's uranium.
"Iran will never accept that," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said in response to questions about the suspension of uranium enrichment.
President Donald Trump previously said US negotiators had had "very good" talks with the Iranian delegation over the weekend.
Iran is awaiting further details from mediator Oman regarding the timing of the next round of talks.
"If there is goodwill from the American side, we are also optimistic, but if talks are aimed at curbing Iran's rights then talks will not come to fruition."
