BNPB: 255 Bengkulu Residents' Houses Damaged Due To Earthquakes

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that as many as 255 Bengkulu residents' houses were damaged after being rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 magnitude.

"This is based on data updating on Saturday (24/5), at 13.00 WIB," wrote the official website of BNPB social media monitored from Bengkulu, Sunday.

The earthquake that occurred on Friday (23/5), at 02.52 WIB was felt by a number of areas in Bengkulu Province. A total of 255 housing units spread across Bengkulu City and Central Bengkulu Regency were damaged.

The damaged houses in Bengkulu City amounted to 206 units, eight of which were severely damaged. Meanwhile, 6 public facilities were also damaged, namely a mosque of 2 units, a sub-district office of 2 units and a school of 2 units.

The distribution of damage was found in five sub-districts, namely Selebar, Gading Cempaka, Singaran Pati, Sungai Serut and Kampung Melayu sub-districts.

In the Central Bengkulu area, 49 houses and 4 school units were damaged due to earthquake shocks. The local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is still verifying the level of damage and data collection in the field.

The distribution of the impact of the earthquake in Central Bengkulu Regency was in three sub-districts, namely Pondok Kelapa, Pondok Kubang and Talang Empat sub-districts.

BPBD Bengkulu City recorded 206 families 792 people affected by the earthquake, while in Central Bengkulu Regency there were 49 families.

The latest data report states that there are no evacuations from residents. Residents chose to be around the house and were reluctant to leave the house due to comfort and security factors.

Meanwhile, the lighting that had been extinguished had been repaired by officers. The electricity facility has recovered. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) also stated that the Bengkulu City Government (Pemkot) has established an earthquake emergency response status.

"The status of the emergency response is determined by the Mayor of Bengkulu through Decree No. 110/2025, valid for seven days from May 23 to May 29, 2025," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari.
