The Door Of The Kudus Wilalung Dam Leading To The Juwana River Is Closed

The door to the Wilalung Dam or known as the Old Wilalung Flood Control Building (BPBWL) on the border of Kudus Regency and Demak, Central Java, which leads to the Juwana River, is closed again, following the flow of water from the Klambu Dam starting to fall.

"Previously, the door to the 8th dam leading to the Juwana River was opened on May 22, 2025, then after the water discharge dropped, it was closed again," said BPBWL Operation and Maintenance Sugeng Hartanto when met on the sidelines of receiving a visit from Kudus Regent Sam'ani Intakhoris at the Wilalung Dam in Kudus, Saturday.

He admitted that the decrease in the flow of water from the Klambu Dam had a long effect, because the water on the banks returned to the river trough.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Kudus Sam'an, i Intakiris admitted that his staff was instructed to monitor the condition of the Wilalung Dam, especially the ranks of the Kudus BPBD.

The monitoring, he said, also involved the PUPR Service and the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS).

"Because previously the water discharge in the Wilalung Dam jumped and the water overflowed, so the number eight door leading to the Juwana River had to be opened to help reduce the burden on the Wulan River because the door to the Wilalung Dam led to the Wulan River and Juwana River," he said.

Regarding the river embankment, he said, a monitoring team had been dispatched after information was previously spread that someone had been celebrating, but the condition was safe.

Despite the decrease in the flow of water from the Klambu Dam, he said, the elevation at the Wilalung Dam was still 258 and was on standby, so it had to be monitored following uncertain weather.

"Monitoring is carried out every four hours, to ensure the current condition," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the Association of Water User Farmers (P3A) of the Kedungombo Akrab system hoped that the opening of the dam door would be temporary, because if it took too long, it was feared that it would inundate rice fields considering that the Juwana River was silting.

The agricultural areas that have the potential to be affected by floodwaters are in Undaan District, such as in Karangrowo, Ngemplak, and Wates Villages. Then the villages of Bergenjang and Wonosoco were also affected because several points of shallow Juwana River flow, so that when the water rises, it will overflow into the rice fields.

The majority of rice fields in Undaan District have been planted for the second planting season (MT), with a planting age of 70 days, although some have just started planting, such as in Wates and Undaan Lor villages.
