Polda Metro Set 16 Students Suspected Of Riots Demonstration At City Hall

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has named 16 suspects in connection with the protests that ended in chaos at the DKI Jakarta City Hall building on Wednesday (21/5) due to a group of mobs forcing their way inside.

"The results of the deepening of the State Security Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya have determined 15 suspects from 93 people who were arrested," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Ade Ary Syam Indradi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 23.

Meanwhile, one other suspect was not from 93 people who were arrested and his status was still being searched (DPO).

Ade Ary explained that 16 people who were named as suspects were students from private universities in West Jakarta.

"They were named as suspects, based on evidence from the visum et repertum of the victim and a scaled off (flashdisk)," he said.

Meanwhile, the initials of the students arrested were RN, ARP, TMC, FNM, AAA, RYD, MKS, ENA, IKBJY, MR, RIJ, NSC, ZFP, AHB, WPA, MAA (DPO).

"Then 78 other people have been allowed to go home and handed over to their families," said Ade Ary.

Ade Ary explained that the suspects were charged with Article 160 of the Criminal Code concerning sedition, Article 170 concerning the criminal act of beatings, Article 212 of the Criminal Code concerning fighting officials who are carrying out their duties, Article 216 of the Criminal Code concerning someone who does not comply with orders or legitimate requests from authorized officials, Article 218 of the Criminal Code concerning not heeding the orders of the officers who are securing it.

The trigger for the violent demonstration at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (21/5) was due to mass efforts that forced him into the DKI Jakarta City Hall building.

When prevented by security officers or members, another incident occurred, namely road closures and blocking a number of state official cars.

"In addition, several protesters forced the officials to step down, they had been reminded by officers in the field, but instead there was a beating that resulted in seven personnel being injured," he said.
