South OKU South Sumatra Prone To Landslide, BPBD Asks Residents To Be Alert

SOUTH SUMATRA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra (Sumsel), asked the public to increase their vigilance in dealing with potential natural disasters, especially landslides.

"Especially landslides that often occur in South OKU, so they must be watched out for together," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD South OKU Heri Pramono in Muaradua, Friday, May 23, as reported by Antara.

He said that during the January-May 2025 period, there were four landslides that closed the inter-village roads in South OKU.

The last time a landslide was due to high rainfall occurred in Gunung Terang Village, Buay Sandang Aji District, on Sunday, May 18, which closed the connecting road in the local village until the traffic flow was completely paralyzed.

"South OKU Regency is a hilly area prone to landslides," he said.

Therefore, he continued, people are asked to continue to increase their vigilance, especially when crossing landslide-prone lanes in order to anticipate casualties.

"Based on the results of the mapping starting from the City of Muaradua to Buay Sandang Aji District, and Muaradua, the tourist area of Danau Ranau is mapped prone to landslides," said Heri Pramono.

He said that along these routes are hilly areas and highlands that are prone to landslides, so motorists must be more vigilant in order to anticipate casualties.

As an effort to overcome it, his party has alerted personnel in a number of landslide-prone areas so that if a natural disaster occurs, it can be handled as early as possible.

"These personnel are alerted to follow up on extreme weather that has the potential to cause the impact of natural disasters," he said.
