Government Commitment To Guard Case Legal Process At Pancasila University

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister (Wamen) of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Veronica Tan said the government is committed to continuing to oversee the legal process of cases of sexual violence that occurred at Pancasila University, until the victim gets justice.

"The legal process for the perpetrators must continue to run as it should, indiscriminately. The task of the state is to ensure that the legal process runs transparently and with accountability in handling victim reports," said PPPA Deputy Minister Veronica Tan in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, May 23.

The Ministry of PPPA has coordinated with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), the police, and the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) to encourage legal processes and impose social sanctions on perpetrators with the initials ETH (72) who are still reported.

Veronica Tan said Indonesia already has a clear legal umbrella, namely the Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS) which must be enforced.

He emphasized that no party is above the law in this case, including university leaders.

"We want a deterrent effect. Sexual harassment is not a light mistake, especially if it is done by academic figures. Campuses must show moral firmness not to tolerate perpetrators, whoever they are. We must guard together. This is not an individual matter, this is a matter of system and protection for the next generation of the nation. All campuses must be ready to build systems that are not only reactive to cases, but also preventive and protect," said Deputy Minister Veronica Tan.

The Deputy Minister of PPPA also invited all women and the entire community if they experienced, heard, saw, or knew cases of violence to dare to reveal the cases that occurred.

The public can report cases of violence through the call center of Friends of Women and Children (SAPA) 129 and WhatsApp 08111 129 129.
