6.3 Magnitude Earthquake In Bengkulu, 100 Houses Damaged And A Number Of Injured Residents
BENGKULU Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan said that around 100 houses were damaged by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 that rocked the Bengkulu area on Friday, May 23 in the morning. Of these, about half of them suffered severe damage.
"The damaged houses are approximately 100 units, and those that are badly damaged are approximately half," Helmi Hasan said, quoted from ANTARA, Friday morning.
The Bengkulu Provincial Government, continued Helmi, will provide assistance in repairing and rebuilding the houses of affected residents. Houses that are heavily damaged will be rebuilt, while houses with minor damage will be repaired.
"We will collapse the houses that were badly damaged and rebuild them. Those that were lightly damaged will be repaired. We have also conveyed grief assistance to residents whose houses were damaged, both heavy and light," he said.
Helmi also mentioned that several residents in Bengkulu City were injured as a result of the earthquake, but so far there have been no reports of casualties.

"There is no death. There are people who are injured. We are still waiting for further reports, including from residents in the city and its surroundings regarding the damage to their houses," he added.
The earthquake occurred at 02.52 WIB and was recorded by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) centered 43 kilometers southwest of Bengkulu City, with a depth of 10 kilometers. BMKG stated that this earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
