Rather Be, A Reflection On Self-Admission From Giveon

JAKARTA - Grammy nominee artist Giveon is entering a new phase of his musical journey by releasing singles and MV Rather Be. This song depicts a reflection in the creativity and artisticity presented by the musician.

'Rather Be' is the most comfortable side of Giveon: open, confident, and not afraid to let its vocal range shine. This ballad song was produced by Sevn Thomas, Maneesh, Matthew Burnett, jeff gitty and Jahaan sweet.

Giveon created impressive momentum, and poured his heart into every lyric along the song. It was also realized visually through the MV directed by Loris Russier.

Russier presented the elegant montage of Giveon and his colleagues who graced the spaces with the live appearance of his new song, when Giveon, the main character, was trying to be more intimate with his lover. Russier deftly plays with space and symmetries to create a unique background for his singer and crew wearing suit.

This song is a reflection of acceptance. Seeing a person's shortcomings and choosing to stay afloat," Giveon said of his song in a written broadcast, May 22.

"This song is about loving someone not because they can be what they are, but what they are, and realize that a real relationship is not about starting from scratch, but about survival."

As fans look forward to the next project, 2025 for Giveon has become a memorable year. He celebrated the five-year anniversary of his groundbreaking project, TAKE TIME EP 2020, with intimate shows earlier this year in Los Angeles, attended by people like Epic Chair Sylvia Rhone, Lena Waithe, Amerie, and Jimmy Jam.
