Chevron Beach Offshore Oil Pavilion Burns, 17 People Injured

JAKARTA - A total of 17 people were injured, four of whom were seriously injured by a fire at the Chevron offshore oil bridge operated by Benguela

The cause of the fire that occurred on the underground deck of a multi-storey drilling production platform at the Block 14 concession about 60 miles (97 km) off the coast of Cabinda is currently being investigated.

"Everything is now on the ground and receiving proper medical treatment," the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuel Angola said in a statement.

Chevron said the incident occurred at a time when BBLT was undergoing annual treatment as part of a scheduled termination.

All production at that site was discontinued on May 1 this year.

According to Chevron's website, the tower oil platform has a residence for about 157 people. The fire broke out around 3 a.m., Tuesday, May 20
