3 Days Of Search, Victims Of Crocodile Attacked In Kotabaru River Found Dead

The joint team from Sungai Durian Police, TNI, Basarnas, volunteers, and residents finally found the body of SM (34), a man who was reported missing after being attacked by a crocodile in Sungai Manunggul, Sungai Durian District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan (South Kalimantan).

"Alhamdulillah, it was found this morning at around 06.15 WITA," said Sungai Durian Police Chief Iptu Tri Wibawa, quoted on Tuesday, May 20.

Tri explained that the search for the victim's body lasted for three days since it was reported missing on Sunday 18 May. The victim was found floating and lying on the river, about 100 meters from the initial location of the incident.

"After being found, the victim was immediately evacuated to Sungai Durian Health Center for medical examination," he said.

SM, a resident of Manunggul Lama Village RT 02, Sungai Durian District, is known to have disappeared while fishing in the Manunggul River on Sunday evening. He is strongly suspected of being a victim of a crocodile attack.

Responding to the report, Sungai Durian Police together with the TNI and Basarnas immediately formed a search team. The team was then deployed to a number of points by combing the river channel which was suspected to be the initial location for the victim to be attacked.

After a relentless search effort, the victim's body was finally found and evacuated by a joint team to a nearby health facility.
