DKI Provincial Government Considers Forming Parking BUMD, Handling Leaks Of Trillions Of Rupiah

JAKARTA The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government opens up opportunities for the establishment of Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) specifically for parking management, following proposals from the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, said that the proposal would be discussed further in detail. He assessed that the parking system in Jakarta has been stagnant for too long and needs updates.

"Yes, we will discuss it in more detail," said Pramono at City Hall, Tuesday, May 20.

He also emphasized his support for the implementation of the cashless payment system in order to reorganize parking management in the capital city. According to him, the system will create more transparent and efficient governance.

"Hopefully we can handle it soon," said Pramono.

Previously, a member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Commission C from the PDI-P faction, Hardiyanto Kenneth, revealed that the potential leakage of regional income from the parking sector could reach trillions of rupiah. He highlighted the rampant practice of illegal parking, which is mostly managed by community organizations (ormas).

"We know that this illegal parking is mostly managed by mass organizations. If it's left alone, there will be leaks. If I check, roughly, this leak in the parking lot is extraordinary. The numbers can reach trillions," said Kenneth.

He also suggested that the DKI Provincial Government not only embrace mass organizations to collaborate, but also consider the option of auctioning parking management to the private sector.

"If it is managed by the private sector, the rules of the game are clear. The agreement can also be tied up with a transparent contract," he added.

The discourse on establishing this Parking BUMD is expected to be a long-term solution to overcome illegal parking and increase local revenue (PAD) from the transportation sector.
