Ojol Demo May 20, Police Prepare Traffic Engineering In Central Jakarta

JAKARTA - A massive demonstration by online motorcycle taxi drivers or ojol drivers took place in Jakarta, Tuesday, May 20. Polda Metro Jaya has prepared traffic engineering and diversion.

The ojol demonstration is scheduled to start at 13.00 WIB this afternoon. The center is in three locations, namely around the Merdeka Palace, the Ministry of Transportation office, and the DPR/MPR building, Central Jakarta.

Wadirlantas Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Argo Wiyono said the diversion of traffic flow during the ojol demonstration was incidental or situational.

"The diversion (of traffic flow) is the last resort," said Argo.

Polda Metro Jaya has not yet decided to close the road. However, the public is advised to avoid the Medan Merdeka Street area, the Horse Statue area, and roads around the DPR/MPR building because the number of ojol demonstrations is estimated to be large.

"We are trying to keep the community able to cross that road, but we still urge people to avoid the area so they don't get trapped like that," he said.

Today's ojol demonstration is estimated to be attended by 500,000 drivers. Apart from Jakarta, ojol drivers will also carry out similar actions simultaneously in various regions, such as Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Palembang, Lampung, and others.

Ojol drivers agreed to stop services and shut down applications on a mass basis or offbid, as a form of protest to companies providing online transportation applications.

5 Demands For The Ojol Hari Mass demonstration Ojol voiced five demands in today's demonstration, namely as follows:

1. The President and the minister of transportation give strict sanctions to application companies that violate the regulation of Permenhub Number 12 of 2019, Kepmenhub Number 1001 of 2022.

2. Commission V of the DPR to hold a joint hearing (RDP) of the Ministry of Transportation, associations, applicators.

3. Cut the application 10%.

4. Revise passenger rates (delete aceng or anggo goceng, slot, save, priority, etc.).

5. Set food service rates and goods delivery, involving associations, regulators, applicators, and YLKI.

The Association of Indonesian Guard Ojol Drivers (Garda) appealed to the public not to order online ojol services during the demonstration as a form of solidarity with the drivers' struggles.
