Apple Launches New Migration Tool To Move From Spotify To Apple Music
Apple is now launching a new migration tool that makes it easier for users to switch from another music streaming service to Apple Music, allowing them to maintain their library and playlist. This tool was first tested in February 2025 and is now available to Apple Music users in Australia and New Zealand. This marks the first step of a global launch that is expected to be available in other regions soon.
This migration tool is the result of collaboration with a service called SongShift, an application used to move playlists and libraries between other streaming services. In addition, there are also other third-party services available online, such as Playlistor by Raymond Akornor, which AppleInsider staff also likes.
In the past, users were able to move the library of songs purchased between services, such as iTunes. However, nowadays, streaming songs cannot be moved directly between services. Instead, this tool must read data from third-party services and copy them to Apple Music.
Apple's migration tool explains that users can move saved playlists, as well as liked songs and albums, to Apple Music. However, there is a warning that not all information will be moved, because what can be retrieved and the version of the song can vary between third-party services.
Users can start the migration process from iPhones, iPads, or Android devices by opening Apple Music settings and selecting "Change Music from Other Music Services." Users are then asked to select a music service, log in to their account, select what to move, and tap Add to the Library.

The same process can also be done through a browser, by going to music.apple.com, selecting their profile photos or monograms, then selecting Music Transfers. In both cases, Apple Music will try to find a match for selected songs in the Apple Music catalog. If there are songs that cannot be matched properly, users will be given the opportunity to review alternatives and add them to their playlist or library.
The songs will not be copied, whatever the source. Users have 30 days from the first transfer to review unsuitable music and choose the appropriate alternative.
This migration tool comes at the same time as Apple's legal battle over regulations, some of which directly benefit Spotify as Apple Music's main competitor. On May 3, Apple approved an update to the Spotify app to include direct links to purchases and price information, following a court order forcing Apple to remove anti-reversion rules.
Spotify also attacked Apple in February 2025, urging the European Union to enforce the Digital Market Act and forcing Apple to comply with or face severe penalties.
