Panasonic Make Sure There Are No Layoffs In RI: Instead, Indonesian Factory Becomes An Export Base

JAKARTA - PT Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia (PMI) ensures that the global restructuring plan, including the reduction of the Panasonic Holdings workforce, will not have an impact on companies in Indonesia.

Vice President Director of PT Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia Daniel Suhardiman said that termination of employment (PHK) would not occur in Indonesia.

The company still believes that Southeast Asia, including Indonesia is a supporter of world economic growth

"The Panasonic plant in Indonesia is also the basis for exports to 80 countries, signaling the strong competitiveness of companies in Indonesia," Daniel said as quoted from his official statement, Thursday, May 15.

This was conveyed as well as responding to reports released by Nikkei Asia regarding the planned global restructuring of Panasonic Holdings, including a gradual reduction of 10,000 workers.

In addition, Daniel said, Indonesia has a strong domestic market which is also supported by a domestic component-level policy (TKDN) from the government.

"This is one of the incentives for domestic industries, including Panasonic in Indonesia to continue to increase investment," he said.

Even so, Daniel warned that this condition is also a warning to all parties that competition is getting tighter, transformation and innovation are needed to survive.

Therefore, the domestic electronics industry needs to continue to be supported by government policies aimed at securing the domestic market.

On the same occasion, President of the Federation of Panasonic Gobel Workers Unions (FSPPG) Djoko Wahyudi said that the Panasonic Gobel business group always involves FSPPG's active participation in industrial relations and the company's future.

Not only that, his party will also jointly carry out active communication with the government, especially the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) of the Republic of Indonesia.
