Death Explosion In Garut: 13 Killed, TNI AD Immediately Investigate!

Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana confirmed that his party would conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the main cause of the explosion of the detonator during the ammunition disposal process in Garut, West Java.

"We will carry out a thorough investigation related to this incident and we will convey further information regarding the progress of the investigation or investigation carried out," Wahyu said in a press statement received by VOI, Monday, May 12.

Wahyu explained that the investigation process would include examining several related parties and conducting a direct review of the scene of the explosion.

The chronology of the incident began with the destruction of ammunition carried out by the TNI AD Equipment Center III Warehouse in Sagara Village, Cibalong District, Garut Regency, at 09.30 WIB.

"At the beginning of the activity, procedures were carried out to check personnel and location of the explosion, and all of them were declared safe," said Wahyu.

After that, the personnel built two wells to put the ammunition belonging to the TNI AD that will be destroyed. After the ammunition was put into the hole, the detonation was carried out by TNI AD personnel using the detonator. The detonation process in these two wells went perfectly in a safe condition.

Then, the personnel filled in a single hole that had been prepared to destroy the detonator that was previously used to blow up the two wells. The detonation was put in a hole to be destroyed in the same way as the previous ammunition culling.

However, when the ammunition preparation team was compiling a detonator inside the hole, suddenly an explosion occurred from inside the hole. The explosion caused 13 people to die, four of whom were members of the TNI, while the rest were civilians.

"Currently, all the victims who died have been evacuated to the hospital for further action," Wahyu said.
