Crypto Offers More Economic Potential And Legal Than Online Gambling

JAKARTA - In the midst of the spotlight on the circulation of online gambling funds (judol), the crypto asset industry has shown positive movement as the new backbone of the Indonesian digital economy.

The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) noted that the circulation of online gambling funds in the first quarter (Q1) 2025 reached IDR 47 trillion.

On the other hand, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that crypto transactions in Indonesia during the same period actually jumped, reaching Rp109.3 trillion.

State revenue from the crypto sector continues to increase.

Since the implementation of the crypto asset tax in 2022 to March 2025, the total tax revenue has reached IDR 1.2 trillion.

Especially for this year, the crypto tax that has been collected is IDR 115.1 billion.

Tokocrypto CMO, Wan Iqbal said, this figure not only shows a strong appeal to digital assets, but also reflects the large participation of the community, with 13.71 million active consumers in the crypto ecosystem until March 2025.

Iqbal emphasized that crypto assets are very different from online gambling which is detrimental and unproductive, crypto assets actually open access to real and legal economic opportunities.

"The crypto industry provides long-term benefits for the community. Apart from being an investment tool, crypto also opens up jobs, encourages digital financial literacy, and contributes directly to state revenue through taxes," he said in a written statement.

In addition, Iqbal also revealed that the crypto industry offers a much healthier, more legal, and sustainable economic potential than judol.

According to him, by strengthening regulations and education that continue to grow, crypto has a great opportunity to encourage financial inclusion and encourage the growth of the digital economy in Indonesia.

"If it is supported by pro-novation policies and massive literacy programs, crypto has the potential to become the main motor in creating a more inclusive digital economy ecosystem," he said.
