Utut Adianto: Shafira Devi Tungga In The New Generation Of Indonesian Chess Players

JAKARTA - Young Speaker of Shafira Devi Herfesa is considered by the General Chair of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Chess Association (PB Percasi) Utut Adianto to be one of the milestones of the new chess generation in Indonesia.

Shafira has just secured a ticket to the Catur World Cup after winning the Asian Zone 3.3 Chess Championship 2025 in Mongolia.

"The new generation (customers) has been born, he (Shafira) will go to the Catur World Cup after Irene Kharisma Sukandar and Medina Warda Aulia. Hopefully, many will be like Shafira," Utut said at a press conference in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, May 10.

Shafira became the third Indonesian female chess player to break into the Catur World Cup after Irene Kharisma Sukandar and Medina Warda Aulia.

Pecatur yang tengah mengeksa diri di Sekolah Catur Utut Adianto itu juga akan turun dalam JAPFA Fide Rated 2025 dari 10 hingga 15 Mei di Jakarta.

Utut appreciated Shafira's tireless courage despite just finishing the Asian Zone 3.3 Chess Championship tournament.

"This means that he (Shafira) is not afraid, usually people don't dare (because his competitors are quite strong)," said Utut.

JAPFA Fide Rated 2025 was attended by 376 chess players from nine countries, namely Indonesia, Australia, Belgium, India, Singapore, Italy, Uzbekistan, Siera Leone, and the Philippines.

This international event, which is divided into the Open and Challenger categories, is a great opportunity for the chess players to gather the number of Elo Ratings.
