Minister Of MSMEs Encourages MSME Entrepreneurs To Diversify Markets Amid Global Uncertainty

JAKARTA - Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman encourages MSME entrepreneurs to diversify their markets amid global uncertainty, including the impact of the United States (US) tariff policy.

"The current global economic condition is not entirely in a stable situation. However, this is no reason to be afraid. Instead, we can take lessons to be able to turn challenges into opportunities," said Maman Abdurrahman in a statement to the media, Saturday, May 10.

Maman emphasized that Indonesia's current economic fundamentals are still quite strong, even though the psychological pressure due to the US tariff policy is still felt by entrepreneurs. For this reason, Maman asked MSME employers and entrepreneurs not to worry.

"In yesterday's cabinet meeting, it was stated that the domestic conditions remained solid. It's just that there are implications for the goods that we will export to America," said Maman, who is also a cadre of the Golkar Party.

Furthermore, Maman said that another impact of this trade tension caused China to look for a new market, and Indonesia was considered an alternative.

"If Indonesia is the target market for alternative Chinese products, we must anticipate this. Therefore, the government encourages market diversification for MSMEs, both for export and domestic markets," he said.

In addition to encouraging MSMEs to look for new export markets outside America, he also reminded the importance of utilizing the great potential of the Indonesian domestic market.

Indonesia's domestic market is big and significant. Don't let us be trapped just chasing exports, even though domestic potential is very promising, especially after the impact of Trump's tariff," said Maman.

In an effort to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs in the midst of global competition, the government has also begun to implement sector clustering strategies.

For example, Maman explained the grouping of micro entrepreneurs in the handicraft sector such as merchandise or decoration items.
