East Jakarta Metro Police Chief: No Thugs Are Immune To The Law
The East Jakarta Metro Police (Jaktim) formed an integrated special team to tackle thuggery acts in their area. The police will also anticipate actions or deviant acts committed by thugs.
"Yes, we already have a team formed to anticipate deviant acts that are thuggery," said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Nicolas Ary Lilipaly in East Jakarta, Friday, May 9.
This team carried out integrated operations, legal counseling and a dialogical approach to suppress thuggery in the local area.
In addition, the formation of the team was a follow-up to reports from the public who were worried about acts of thuggery in neighborhoods throughout East Jakarta.
Nicolas said the thuggery response team consisted of a joint team from Polsek, Polres, Sub-Department of Transportation, Kodim, East Jakarta Satpol PP, to the Public Order and Security Awareness Group (Pokdar Kamtibmas).
The joint team is tasked with conducting patrols to prevent security disturbances.
"As stated by the Kapolda, that we must be professional and proportional in responding to this and we will take firm action if there are behaviors of these deviations," said Nicolas.

Nicolas emphasized that there is no such thing as thuggery that is above the law. Anyone who commits a deviant act, will be prosecuted according to the applicable law in Indonesia.
"Because if you commit acts of thuggery, you will definitely face law enforcement officials, let alone take actions that are against the laws in Indonesia, in our country," explained Nicolas.
Previously, Polda Metro Jaya carried out an integrated operation to tackle acts of thuggery that disturbed the community in the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings.
"This operation is a strategic step that includes three main approaches, namely preemptive, preventive, to law enforcement (repressive) against thuggery perpetrators," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Ade Ary Syam Indradi in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.
Ade Ary explained that this operation was not only based on prosecution, but rather started with education to the public and intensive supervision at vulnerable locations.
