Ange Postecoglou Different Opinions With Ruben Amorim About Winning The Europa League

JAKARTA - Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has responded to anyone who tried to downturn his team's achievement in reaching the Europa League final, adding that he didn't care about the club's performance in the Premier League.

Spurs face a difficult 100 km test within the Arctic Circle, beating Bodo/Glimt 2-0 on Friday, May 9, 2025, early morning WIB, to win the game 5-1 on aggregate and secure a place in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Interestingly, Postecoglou disagrees with Ruben Amorim that winning the Europa League - and getting a place in the Champions League - will not save their season.

The Australian coach took the opposite view saying that winning trophies would be much more successful than just finishing high in the league standings.

"If we win, we will only take pictures together because we are not worthy. Who cares if we are struggling in the league? Why is that important?"

"If it's so easy to reach the final, then why isn't everyone who finished in the top three doing it?"

"I mean, it's a separate thing. It has nothing to do with league performance. We understand our league performance is not good."

"We understand the difficulties we are experiencing. Many of them are due to the situation we are in, but how does it reduce the achievement to reach the final?"

"As I said, this club and others have finished in first, second, or third place in the Premier League and have yet to reach the final."

"So why should it be reduced? I don't care who is struggling and who isn't."

"I think we and Manchester United both deserve to be there. I think we might beat the teams who will be in the Champions League next year on our way there."

"So, we're looking forward to it, it has to be about the game," said Postecoglou.

The question of whether Europa League trophies are enough to save Spurs and Manchester United has become a hot topic.

This also happened because local Spurs rivals, Arsenal, would end the season without trophies despite being involved in the Premier League title race and reaching the semifinals of the Champions League.

Tottenham have not won a trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2008. In addition, this is their first European final since they lost their last challenge against Liverpool in the Champions League in 2019.

"What's happening right now is people are afraid that it's really going to happen because it might happen."

"Let's see how we can bring it down, somehow reduce it by saying that it's a bad season and ami doesn't deserve this or that."

"Or, somehow compared us to Manchester United. If we had a success like Manchester United, maybe I would have a different view."

"I could be sitting here right in fifth position (in the Premier League) and I guarantee that comments around me will say, well, that's a great achievement, but this club needs to win something."

"That's what everyone will say. Of course this (entering the Europa League final) is very important," said Postecoglou.
