Apple Distributes Money To Siri Users, Compensation For Privacy Violations

JAKARTA Some US users can now receive money from Apple for ten years of Siri's negligence. The money given by Apple is compensation for the mistakes they made.

Users are entitled to receive compensation funds if Siri is ever active when they say random words. Apple will provide a discount if that happens between 2014 and 2024.

This compensation is a form of completion of the class action privacy lawsuit filed in 2019. At that time, it was revealed that Siri's virtual assistant could be active when the user said the word 'Hey, Siri'.

This happened because Siri was triggered by HomePod or other smart home devices that reduced Siri's summons order. Worse, when Siri is active, Apple contractors can hear all of the user's conversations.

The device will record the short part of the conversation, then include in the Siri interaction which is directly evaluated by humans. This stored data is used to improve Siri's understanding. Basically, this action is wrong.

The whistleblower, citing from 9to5mac, said that, "Apple Contractors regularly hear secret medical information, drug transactions, and recordings of couples having sex, as part of their work."

This action was also confirmed by one of Siri's reviewers. To The Guardian, the reviewer said that they had heard many very sensitive conversations because of Siri's accidental recording.

Apple also admits that the data collected is very low and even only one percent of Siri's total interactions. However, it should be emphasized that this one percent amounts to millions of records so that Apple remains guilty.

Therefore, Apple still has to compensate affected US users. Users can only claim 20 US dollars (Rp330 thousand) per existing device Siri. The maximum claimable device is five.
