Russian President Putin Calls It Important To Strengthen The Role Of The United Nations

JAKARTA - Russian President Vladimir Putin said it was important to strengthen the United Nations (UN) war in the midst of the current world situation.

This was conveyed by President Putin at a banquet held in his name for guests invited by Moscow to attend the 80th Anniversary of Victory Day, the day Russia and the Allies won over Nazi Germany in World War II.

President Putin highlighted the importance and relevance of the United Nations being renewed amid ongoing efforts to build a fairer global order.

"Today, as we move towards a fairer world, UN demand and significance once again increase," he said, quoted from TASS May 9.

President Putin underlined the need to strengthen the main role of the United Nations in international affairs, stressing, "It is imperative to strengthen its core coordination function to effectively manage global issues, and to ensure strict compliance with the norms and basic principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter - upholds its integrity, linkage, and full scope."

He said this topic was the subject of the discussion at the BRICS summit last year in Kazan, a meeting attended by many of the leaders of the same delegation who attended the Kremlin today.

President Putin reflected on the journey towards establishing a new framework for global security and the establishment of the United Nations, which was initiated in May 1945. "It is our duty for the winning generation," he stressed, continuing, "to take full advantage of the great potential of this institution."
