Minister Of Transportation Investigate Owners Of Deadly Trucks That Killed 11 People In Purworejo

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Pirwagandi said he was investigating the owner of a dump truck loaded with sand that hit a public transport car on the Magelang-Purworejo descent road, Purworejo Regency, Central Java, which killed up to 11 people.

The Minister of Transportation has sent Ministry of Transportation officials to the scene to investigate further the status and ownership of the truck.

"I'm sending people or sending our officials from the Ministry of Transportation to see in more detail what it looks like? Is this a business entity? Sometimes there may also be individuals who work on vehicles," said the Minister of Transportation as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 8.

According to him, there is a possibility that the truck is run by business entities and individuals, so the legal status needs to be traced.

The Minister of Transportation stated that vehicles that were not registered and did not have official permits were classified as violations, and the violations would be handed over to law enforcement officials for further processing.

Likewise, if elements of a criminal act are found in the operation of the vehicle, the handling will be fully delegated to the police in accordance with applicable regulations.

"If it is a business entity, maybe we will recommend to do it, to revoke the business license," explained the Minister of Transportation.

The Ministry of Transportation stated that the dump truck loaded with sand that hit a public transport car in Purworejo was not registered in the licensing system.

"Indeed, like the last accident (dump trucks loaded with sand that hit a public transport car on the Magelang-Purworejo descent road, Purworejo Regency) did not have a permit," he said.

In addition, the Minister of Transportation emphasized the importance of driver training, especially goods transportation, to make it more professional and safe to drive heavy vehicles on the highway.

The Ministry of Transportation, through the Agency for Human Resources Development of Transportation (BPSDMP), has provided training to special drivers, and will expand the scope of training to the national public goods transportation sector.

The training method will focus on the company's internal trainers or trainers, who will be tasked with training their drivers on a sustainable and targeted basis.
