Minister Of Human Rights: Education In The TNI Barracks Can Be Implemented Throughout Indonesia
JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai said problematic student education in military barracks could be applied throughout Indonesia, if the program launched by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi proved successful.
Pigai, after receiving Dedi Mulyadi's visit at the Ministry of Human Rights Office, Jakarta, also admitted that he would suggest the program to the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti.
"If West Java is successful, then according to the authority possessed by the Ministry of Human Rights, it will convey to the Minister of National Education (Mendikdasmen, ed.) to issue regulations so that this model can be implemented massively throughout Indonesia," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 8.
For Pigai, problematic student education in the barracks did not violate human rights as long as the program was carried out without physical punishment. According to him, getting a decent education is a human right as regulated by the constitution.
The Minister of Human Rights appreciated the program because it was considered oriented towards improving the quality of human resources, mainly related to students' discipline, knowledge, mentality, and responsibility.
"If these variables are in rhythm, with the same fate, a soul with human rights, it means no, no, they do not enter areas that are contrary to human rights," he said.
In addition, Pigai also views the student education program in the barracks as aligned with President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita. Because, he said, this program can prepare a quality generation of nations to achieve the vision of Indonesia Gold 2045.
[If] the character is not humane, the discipline is not high, the mentality is not good, not productive, not responsible, how do we want to go global (World)? How about 2045 weleading (leading) in the world ? " he said.

Meanwhile, Dedi admitted that his ongoing program did not violate children's rights. Instead, he said, education in the barracks can train students' discipline to receive good lessons.
"Why? Because all this time they've been skipping. They never studied, the building averaged at 10 pm. Then, in the barracks they got a good environment. Because all this time they didn't get a good environment, in their school environment they didn't get a good environment, they became street children," he said.
Dedi added that the students who were brought to the barracks were based on parental consent. There, they will receive education for approximately 28 days accompanied by doctors, psychologists, and Koran teachers.
Dia pun memastikan siswa-student tersebut tetap mendapatkan pendidikan formal. Mereka mengikuti uji dan pendidikan biasa. Mereka terkoneksi kepada sekolah dan tetap menjadi siswa, ucapnya.
Dedi said the West Java Ministry of Human Rights Regional Office would become a partner in this program. In addition to teaching human rights education, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Human Rights also supervises to ensure that no human rights violations occur.
The Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Human Rights, Hasbullah Fudail, confirmed that he was involved in monitoring the education of problematic students at the TNI barracks. Hasbullah said that his party would immediately deploy a team.
"As soon as possible," said Hasbullah.
