Megawati Highlights Planned Revision Of Election Law

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri highlighted the revision of the Election Law (UU) which will be discussed in the DPR.

Megawati does not know if there will be another revision of the law.

"This is also going to change the Election Law. I don't know yet," Megawati said at the 2025 Trisakti Tourism Award (Tourism Institute) Award Award in the Central Jakarta area, Thursday, May 8, as reported by ANTARA.

Megawati warned that the revision of the Election Law should not be carried out only to change the substance of democracy. The reason is, if this is done then democracy's value can be seen only from material.

"But please, the state's intention to carry out the election is not to find someone to finally buy power," he said.

"At this time. People only think like that. I'll just look at it," said Megawati.

As previously reported, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, stated that the discussion on the revision of the Law (UU) on Elections still saw the situation in the field first. Moreover, currently Commission II of the DPR is still focused on discussing the draft law (RUU) on State Civil Apparatus (ASN).

"We are also looking at the situation on the ground, after these days," said Puan, Wednesday.

Regarding where the revision of the Election Law will be discussed later, Puan also cannot confirm whether it is in Commission II or in the Legislation Body (Baleg).

"How is the situation on the ground after these days, does it require more discussion so that it needs to be done in the discussion at the Commission, whether it only needs to be discussed in Baleg, these are the leaders and friends in the DPR who are discussing this," he concluded.
