Megawati: Pope Francis' Death Is Like Losing A Father

JAKARTA - The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri expressed her deep sorrow for the death of the leader of the Catholics, Pope Francis.

"I'm missing a figure whose name is Pope Francis. Why? I was given the task of him (Pope Francis) but here I don't tell you," Megawati said in her speech while attending the 2025 Trisakti Tourism Award (Tourism Award) Award in the Central Jakarta area, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 8.

Megawati called Pope Francis a father figure for her. However, he did not tell her what task the Pope had given him.

"So what does it feel like, (the departure of the Pope) is like losing your own father," he explained.

Francis, who is the first Latin American Pope, passed away on April 21 at his residence, Vatican, at the age of 88.

The Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia who is also the Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri attended the 2025 Trisakti Tourism Award (Tourism Village) in the Central Jakarta area, Thursday night.

Monitoring at the location, Megawati, who appeared to be wearing red clothes, was accompanied by her son who is also the Chair of the PDIP DPP, M. Prananda Prabowo, and his wife Nancy Prananda.

This activity was attended by 232 tourist villages from various regencies/cities led by PDI-P cadres throughout Indonesia.
