DENPASAR - Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti revealed the dangers of the emergence of a generation of strawberries and barcodes that need to be watched out for in the era of disruption.
In his speech at the opening of the Denpasar Education Festival 2025 at the Dharma Negara Building, Alaya Denpasar, Thursday, May 8, the Minister of Education and Culture explained that the challenges of education now and the future are not light.
He explained that the era of disruption was marked by very rapid changes in various sectors, including education that gave rise to the phenomenon of the generation of strawberries.
According to him, the generation of strawberries depicts young people who are considered weak and fragile mentally and do not have the endurance to face the challenges of life.
"The phenomenon of the generation of strawberries that we try to mean is that their generation is mentally very weak, they don't have enough durability," he said.
Not only that, in several major cities in Indonesia also appear as well as symptoms commonly referred to as the term generation of barcodes.
Generation of barcodes, according to him, is very emotional. In fact, when they experience minor problems in their lives, they can experience extreme psychological disorders.
"They experience psychological shocks that we can't imagine what their response will be like, they sometimes hurt themselves," he said.
Mu'ti also highlighted the socio-cultural inequality that affects inter-generational mindset.
The consistency of the values and perspective between parents and children can be the root of a number of problems in today's parenting and education.
"Many parents still have old mindsets, while our children no longer use such methods," said Mu'ti.
