Dedi Mulyadi Will Discuss With Mendikdasmen On Education At The TNI Barak
JAKARTA - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said he would discuss with the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti regarding character education for problematic students in military barracks.
"Yes, after this we will also convey," said Dedi after discussing with Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai at the Ministry of Human Rights Office, Jakarta, Thursday, May 8, reported by ANTARA.
Dedi said character education for SMP and SMA equivalent students who had problems in military barracks was the best solution. Because, according to him, parents and the school cannot solve the problems of teenagers in West Java.
One of the problems of teenagers referred to by Dedi, one of which is an undisciplined lifestyle. Teenagers aged in school in West Java are said to often sleep in the early hours of the morning because they play games while playing, causing them not to go to school.
The excessive consumption of social media, called Dedi, is also a problem among teenagers. The reason is, teenagers in West Java are systematically organized through the power of social media to fight openly and behind closed doors.
In addition, medicines that are not suitable for consumption and liquor are also circulating and can be easily accessed by teenagers in the province.
"Because this problem cannot be resolved in schools and in families and not all of these problems can be handled through child justice, there must be short-term efforts that can be made through the discipline education pattern of students ... then we cooperate with the TNI institution," he said.
According to Dedi, the TNI was chosen as an institution that teaches character education to students because they have experience in education, both for the military and civilians.
In his discussion with Minister Pigai, Dedi admitted that his program, which had started running, did not violate children's rights. Instead, he said, education in the barracks trains student discipline to receive good lessons.
"Why? Because all this time they've been skipping. They never studied, the building averaged at 10 pm. Then, in the barracks they got a good environment. Because all this time they didn't get a good environment, in their school environment they didn't get a good environment, they became street children," he said.

Dedi explained that the students who were brought to the barracks were based on parental consent. There, they will receive education for approximately 28 days accompanied by doctors, psychologists, and Koran teachers.
Dia pun memastikan siswa-student tersebut tetap mendapatkan pendidikan formal. Mereka mengikuti uji dan pendidikan biasa. Mereka terkoneksi kepada sekolah dan tetap menjadi siswa, ujarnya.
