Russia Accuses Ukrainian Troops Of Trying To Break Through Kursk During 3 Days Of Ceasefire

JAKARTA - Russia's Ministry of Defense said Ukrainian forces had twice attempted to break through borders to Russia's Kursk territory since the start of a three-day ceasefire.

Both Moscow and Kyiv accuse each other of violating the ceasefire announced by Russia, which took effect on Thursday, May 8.

As reported by Reuters, Ukraine is not committed to adhering to the ceasefire by calling it Russian President Vladimir Putin's trick to create an impression of wanting to end the war.

Putin said he was committed to achieving peace, while Russia's Ministry of Defense said it complied with the ceasefire.

The attack on Ukraine's airfield and the seizure of Troitske village in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region by Moscow came before the ceasefire began, Russia said.

But a Ukrainian military spokesman said Russia continued to carry out attacks in several areas on the eastern front lines with reports of two injured.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old woman was killed during a bombing in Ukraine's northern Sumy region.

The ceasefire fell on the 80th anniversary of Germany's defeat in the Second World War. Putin will host Chinese President Xi Jinping and a number of other leaders at a military parade on Moscow's Red Square on May 9.
