Study: Eating Many Eggs Makes Women's Brain Work Sharper
JAKARTA - A recent study revealed that consuming eggs regularly can help maintain the sharpness of the brain, especially in women. These findings come from a study published in the journal Nutrients which examines the relationship between egg consumption and cognitive abilities in elderly adults.
The study involved 890 participants over the age of 55 consisting of 357 men and 533 women, who are members of Rancho Bernardo Study, a long-term observational study in California.
The participants underwent cognitive function tests such as language skills, memory, attention, and mental curiosity for two periods, between 1988'1991 and 1992'1996.
The results were surprising. Women who eat eggs more often show a smaller cognitive decline in the score, especially in the speech feasibility test, which assesses the semantics memory and brain function of the executive.
Any increase in egg consumption frequency is associated with the risk of a decrease in brain function. Women who eat eggs more than five times a week experience a much smaller drop in scores than they never eat eggs.
"The egg may play a role in maintaining cognitive functions," said the lead researcher, Prof. Donna Kritz-Silverstein of the University of California San Diego, quoted from the Health page.
He also noted that although similar results were not found in men, egg consumption did not have a negative impact on the brain performance of both sexes.
The researchers suspect that differences in outcomes between men and women can be influenced by other factors such as levels of education, exercise, smoking, and alcohol drinking habits. However, they agree that eggs contain essential nutrients for the brain such as protein, collin, as well as lutein and zeaxanthin which are known to support neurohealth.
Although this study has limitations, such as the use of self-reported data by participants and the limited diversity of participants' backgrounds, the results still provide interesting insights. Eggs are now no longer only seen in terms of cholesterol, but also potential benefits for the brain.

Experts recommend moderate consumption of eggs, which is one to two grains per day, is still relatively safe for most people. However, as the word saying is parodied by nutritionists in this study, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". That is, keeping the brain sharp still requires a balanced diet and lifestyle.
