Indonesia Open 2025: Hosts Are Haunted By Bad Records

JAKARTA The Indonesia Open 2025 will be held again at the beginning of next month. Indonesia as the host also has a bad record without a title in the last three editions.

The Super 1000 BWF level tournament is scheduled to take place on June 3-8, 2025 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. As the host, Indonesia also wants to break the bad record above.

Indonesia last had a representative on the highest podium of this tournament in the 2021 edition. The only title at that time was brought home by Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

The pair nicknamed the Minions defended the title in this tournament after defeating the Japanese pair, Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi, two straight games.

The Minions previously won their first title at the Indonesia Open in the 2019 edition. The pandemic problem caused this event to be canceled in the next edition before being held again in 2021 in Bali.

After that, the best Indonesian representatives' journey in this tournament was one final round. This achievement was carried out by the men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the 2023 edition.

Ginting at that time failed to decide on a men's singles title drought since Simon Santoso in 2012 due to losing two straight games to Denmark's singles, Viktor Axelsen.

In this year's edition, Ginting certainly could not take part because he was still in the recovery stage of injury. The badminton player from West Java is likely to return to the field in July 2025.

Ginting's absence automatically makes men's singles live in Jonatan Christie. The men's singles number will be a mainstay with the men's doubles to win the title.
