Indonesia Officially Hosts The FIBA U-17 And U-19 World Cups

JAKARTA The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) officially appointed Indonesia to host the 2028 FIBA U-17 Women's Basketball World Cup (FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup) and the 2029 FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup (FIBA Basketball World Cup).

FIBA announced the information through the official website on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, WIB night. This is the first time in the history of a so charming competition edition to be held in the Asian region.

"FIBA has given Indonesia the right to host the 2028 FIBA U-17 Women's Basketball World Cup and the 2029 FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup," wrote FIBA.

FIBA made the announcement after their delegation led by FIBA Treasurer, Ingo Weiss, and COO FIBA, Patrick Mariller, met with the General Chair of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) Budi Djiwandono this week.

At the meeting were the Secretary General of Perbasi Nirmala Dewi, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, Member of the FIBA Central Council who is also Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir, and Secretary General of the Indonesian Olympic Committee Wijaya Noeradi.

"Now, fans in Indonesia can look forward to the presence of future stars. These two tournaments are the right event for talented stars from all over the world to show their abilities," said FIBA.

FIBA gave this trust after previously Indonesia succeeded as one of the hosts of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The implementation of the U-17 and U-19 events in Indonesia which has been confirmed is a continuation of the multi-year implementation model introduced by FIBA in 2019.

Meanwhile, the decision on hosting the 2028 FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup and the 2029 FIBA U-19 Women's Basketball World Cup will be made in the near future.
