Members Of The House Of Representatives Highlight Shooting At THM Samarinda, Urges Security Evaluation

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, highlighted the brutal shooting case that killed a visitor at a nightclub in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. He considered that this bloody incident was one of the loose evidences of security surveillance in nightclubs.

"Of course this incident raises deep concern, how security surveillance in entertainment venues is very loose. There should be strict supervision, especially in nightclubs prone to criminal acts," Abdullah said, Thursday, May 8.

As is known, the shooting took place at a nightclub (THM) on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Samarinda City, East Kalimantan, on Sunday, May 4, at around 04.30 WITA. The incident killed a visitor with the initials D (34) with 5 gunshot wounds.

Abdullah asked the police to carry out their duties properly in ensuring security stability in each region. He also asked the central and regional governments to immediately evaluate the surveillance and security system in every nightclub.

"This incident really disturbs the residents' sense of security. The fact that the perpetrators can carry and use firearms inside the entertainment area is a form of serious negligence that should not be allowed," he said.

Abdullah was worried that acts of thuggery and the use of illegal weapons would threaten the safety of the public, if there was no evaluation and repair.

"The state must not lose to acts of thuggery. Moreover, this happens in public spaces. It should be closely monitored," he continued.

Abdullah also urged the government, especially the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Police, to immediately conduct a thorough evaluation of the security and licensing governance of nightclubs. Including the SOP for security, coordination between apparatus, and supervision capacity carried out by owners or managers of entertainment venues.

" Malam entertainment venues should not be a fertile field for crimes, the circulation of illegal weapons, and anarchic actions. There must be a periodic control and supervision system involving the local police and local governments," said the legislator from the Central Java VI electoral district.

Abdullah also reminded the importance of asking for accountability from the management of the Night Entertainment Place (THM) which is the location of the crime.

"The THM business responsibility also cannot be separated. They are obliged to guarantee that their business location does not cause public unrest," he said.

Although functioning as a means of recreation, Abdullah emphasized that THM should not sacrifice the peace and order of the surrounding community. According to him, every THM must comply with regulations that require minimum security standards, monitoring systems, and active coordination with local security forces.

The owners and managers of nightclubs must ensure that their business environment does not threaten the peace of the surrounding community. This is where the function of supervision and law enforcement becomes important," Abdullah explained.

"Otherwise, people will lose confidence in the law, especially the security forces," he added.

Abdullah encouraged clearer and more assertive regulations, including revisions of regional regulations. Or it can be done by evaluating the THM operational permit that endangers the community.

"The policy maker should not hesitate to take firm action against the perpetrators or business owners who are negligent in the obligation to maintain the security of nightclubs. We must not wait for the next victim," Abdullah said.

According to the member of the DPR Law Commission, evaluations must be carried out now, starting from the aspect of licensing, internal security systems, to external supervision by the apparatus.

" Malam entertainment venues can live, but don't let them become a place to die for their citizens," Abdullah concluded.

The latest information is that the nine shooters and killings have been arrested by the Satreskim ranks of the Samarinda Police and Jatanras Polda Kaltim within 1X24 hours. The firearms (senpi) used by the perpetrators were found buried in the plantation area of the Samarinda Seberang area.
