IPL 2025 Rolls, Foreign Players And Young Age Levels Become Magnets

JAKARTA The professional table tennis competition titled Indonesia Pingpong League (IPL) for the 2025 season has started. This is the second season that IPL has been held with a number of innovations after last year's first edition was a success.

The presence of foreign players and competition at the young age level is also a new allure. The performance of the first series for the senior and young levels of the 2025 season in various cities throughout Indonesia has already taken place.

The General Chairperson of IPL, Lt. Gen. Muhamad Saleh Mustafa, stated that innovation to improve the quality and reach of competition was carried out because of the extraordinary reception of table tennis people in Indonesia.

"In the second season, there is a competition at a young age level in seven Indonesian zones to accompany senior competitions."

"In addition, our new step is to allow clubs to use foreign players," said Saleh.

Foreign players who are allowed to compete this year are those from the Southeast Asia or ASEAN region alone. This policy is used to be a benchmark for Indonesian athletes.

Saleh stated that these new innovations were nothing but to ignite the enthusiasm of many parties to revive the glory of table tennis in Indonesia, which used to be so accomplished.

"Now there is an increase from 27 clubs up to 43 clubs. From the elite, level one, two, and three. There are foreign players. So, each club is allowed to use one foreign player," said Saleh.

The Secretary General of IPL, Yon Mardiyono, added that the involvement of foreign players this year made this competition more lively. In addition, the atmosphere of competition is also increasingly formed and more interesting to watch.

"So, what we have captured is the potential of this athlete to have one motivation, a good room, there is a forum so that they are even more enthusiastic about practicing. When we have a good competition, it will produce achievements," said Yon.

The total IPL 2025 competition was attended by 43 senior clubs who registered and took part in the first series competition in Bandung on May 2-4, 2025. Meanwhile, at the young age level there were a total of 114 participating clubs.

Young age itself was held in seven zones, namely Pelembang (Sumatra), Banten (Banten), Jakarta (Jakarta), Bandung (West Java), Semarang (Central Java), Surabaya (East Java), Makassar (Sulawesi). The first series of levels took place on April 25-27, 2025.

"We are proud to see this extraordinary enthusiasm. This response makes us even more motivated to hold better competitions."

"So, IPL will become a candra crater in advance and a prestigious competition for Indonesian table tennis athletes," said Yon.

Furthermore, the senior IPL 2025 will be held in Semarang (Seri II) on July 25-27, 2025 and Surabaya (Seri III) on September 26-28, 2025.

The IPL for young people in 2025 will then be held on 27-29 June (Seri II) and 26-28 August (Seri III).
