10 Niger Soldiers Killed In Rebel Attacks

A total of 10 soldiers were killed and seven others injured in attacks in the Dosso area, Niger this week.

This government statement is related to acts of terrorism on Monday in southern Niger. It was reported that a number of attackers were killed and others arrested.

Together with neighboring countries in Sahel, Mali and Burkina Faso, Niger are battling an uprising by jihad groups linked to Al Qaeda and ISIS.

Security sources said 18 soldiers were missing. Three security vehicles were also stolen, the source said.

The government ordered a ban on the use of motorbikes in the affected areas.

Last month, 12 soldiers were killed and five Indian nationals kidnapped in an attack in Niger near the three-border region that was turbulent with Mali and Burkina Faso.

In March, authorities blamed the EIGS group, the ISIS affiliate, for an attack on a mosque near the three-border area that killed at least 44 civilians.

The governor of the Dosso region in southern Niger, Colonel Major Bana Alassane, traveled to the area the day after the attack to convey his condolences to the families of the soldiers, the government said in a statement.
