Ministry Of Transportation Collaborates With KNKT To Investigate Deadly Bus Accident That Killed 12 People
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is collaborating with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and the police to investigate the cause of the tragic accident of an ALS bus in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, which killed 12 passengers.
"Currently, the Directorate General of Land Transportation is coordinating with the police, the local transportation service and the NTSC to explore the cause of the accident," said Acting Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation Ahmad Yani as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 6.
He conveyed this in response to an inter-Sumatra bus accident (ALS) that occurred on Jalan Lintas Padang Panjang, Padang, West Sumatra on Tuesday (6/5).
For the incident, the Directorate General of Land Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, is concerned and sorry for the accident that killed dozens of bus passengers.
Yani said the bus with police number B 7512 FGA came from Bukittinggi to Padang City. However, when he arrived near the intersection of Bukit Surungan Terminal, the bus had an accident with its final position tilted to the left.
"In this incident, data on 12 passengers died and as many as 25 others were injured. Currently, joint officers are immediately deployed to the location to evacuate the victims," he said.
As for having been checked on the Land Partners Application, it was found that the ALS Bus did not have an operating permit, while the periodic test period was valid until May 14, 2025.
The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation appealed to all Otobus (PO) companies and drivers to periodically check the condition of the fleet and register transportation permits and routinely carry out periodic vehicle tests.

In addition, it is appealed to all people who use public bus transportation to check the feasibility of vehicles before departure on the Land Partner application which can be downloaded on a smartphone.
