Disdukcapil: 38 Thousand NIK Residents Outside Jakarta Have Been Deactivated

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil) confirmed that the program for deactivating the Population Identification Number (NIK) of residents who no longer live in the capital city will continue.

Head of DKI Jakarta Disdukcapil, Budi Awaluddin, said that until now his party had verified as many as 38 thousand residents who were recorded no longer domiciled in Jakarta.

"From the initial data there were hundreds of thousands. After we verified in the field, 38 thousand of them were indeed living outside DKI Jakarta or even dead," Budi told reporters, Tuesday (6/5/2025).

This deactivation is part of the 100 working day program of Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno. After the first wave, Disdukcapil will again verify for the deactivation of the next stage of the NIK.

Budi explained that initially there were about three million Jakarta residents who were known to have settled outside the area. However, since the plan to deactivate the NIK was announced last year, many of them have started independently moving their population data to the appropriate domicile.

"Yesterday we gave a warning. From the figure of 3 million, now it has dropped to around 2.1 million. That's because many have transferred their population documents consciously to the area where they live now," he said.

Meanwhile, residents who were still in DKI Jakarta began to adjust their population data to the address of their newest residence in the capital city.

Budi emphasized that the arrangement of population administration aims to ensure that NIK data is in accordance with the real domicile of residents. He reminded that every citizen must update population data within a maximum period of one year if they change their domicile.

"This program has previously been successfully implemented. Evidently, the population transfer rate (migration) in 2024 will decrease by around 37.47 percent compared to the previous year," he explained.
