Foreign Minister Lavrov Confirms Russia Is Ready To Help Solve India-Pakistan Conflict

JAKARTA - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed Moscow's readiness to help resolve the deadlock between India and Pakistan while speaking with his paving of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Telegram.

"Special attention is paid to a significant increase in tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad. The Russian side emphasizes its readiness to contribute to the political resolution of the situation that emerged as a result of a terrorist attack on April 22 in the Palalgama region, depending on the joint wishes of Islamabad and New Delhi," the ministry said, citing Foreign Minister Lavrov's telephone talks with the man who also serves as Pakistan's Deputy PM.

Foreign Minister Lavrov's conversation with Foreign Minister Dar came two days after he spoke with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and also called for a settlement of the differences between the two neighboring countries.

Earlier, suspected militants killed at least 26 people in last week's attack on a mountainous tourist destination in the Palaligam region in the valley ofTEN.

India accused Pakistan's Inter-Institutional Intelligence Agency of involvement in the attack, carried out by the Lashkar-e-Taiba group.

Pakistan denies it, on the contrary, says it has intelligence that India intends to launch military action and retaliate by stopping all border trade, closing its airspace to Indian airlines, and expelling Indian diplomats.

It is known that the majority of Muslim population is claimed by the two countries and has become the focus of several wars, rebellions and diplomatic stalemate.

Russia itself has been India's largest arms supplier for decades. New Delhi and Moscow have had close ties since the Soviet Union era.
