Call Australian PM After The Victory Of Telak, Prabowo Smiles Happy: Congratulations!

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto congratulated Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for being re-elected in the Australian elections, Saturday, May 3.

The statement was conveyed directly by President Prabowo by telephone from Jakarta on Sunday afternoon.

In the conversation, Prabowo also expressed his hope that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia would be closer under Albanese's leadership.

"Through a telephone call this Sunday afternoon, President Prabowo Subianto directly congratulated His Excellency Anthony Albanese for his success and re-elected as Australian Prime Minister," said Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya in an official statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, May 4.

"President Prabowo hopes to continue and strengthen Indonesia's partnership with Australia," he continued.

Through the official social media account of the Cabinet Secretariat, a moment was also shared when President Prabowo seemed to smile while talking to PM Albanese by telephone.

PM Anthony Albanese is back in charge of Australia after winning the majority of votes in the national election.

The Labor Party he leads has won 87 seats out of a total of 150 seats in parliament. This makes Albanese the first prime minister in 21 years to be re-elected for a second term.

In his winning speech, Saturday night local time, Albanese expressed his appreciation for the trust of the Australian people and invited all citizens to remain optimistic in facing global challenges.

"The Australian people have chosen to face global challenges in Australian ways, help each other and work together to build a future," Albanese said.

Previously, President Prabowo and PM Albanese last met at the APEC Summit in Lima, Peru, on November 14, 2024. The two of them had a chance to chat casually while enjoying breakfast together, discussing a number of strategic issues in bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia.
