BMKG: Koltim Regency Shocked 2 Times By Earthquake Due To Active Fault
The Kendari Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that East Kolaka Regency (Koltim), Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra), was shaken by two earthquakes due to active faults.
Head of BMKG Geophysics Station Kendari Rudin said the first earthquake was at 14:46 WITA with a magnitude of 4.2, which was then followed at 15.24 WITA with a magnitude of 2.2.
The first earthquake was southwest of Lalolae with a depth of 5 kilometers and the second earthquake with a depth of 4 kilometers.
Based on the epicenter, the first earthquake was at coordinates 4.06 south latitude, 121.77 east longitude, located on land at a distance of 4 kilometers southwest of Lolae, while the second earthquake was 1 kilometer southeast of Lolae, East Kolaka Regency.
By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, he said, the earthquake was a shallow earthquake category due to fault activity in the southwest of Lolae.
"Dampak gempa bumi, guncangan ini dilaporkan dirasakan di Kolaka timur, dirasakan oleh banyak orang dalam rumah, di luar oleh beberapa orang. Vibra dirasakan nyata dalam rumah, terasa getaran seperti-akan ada truk berlalu," ujarnya saat dihubungi di Kendari, Antara Minggu, 4 Mei.
Rudin revealed that this earthquake was a follow-up, part of a series of successive earthquake activity in East Kolaka Regency since January 24, 2025 with a magnitude of 4.9.
"Where the current earthquake is the 531st earthquake," he said.
He appealed to the entire community to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.
