WE Member Syahganda Nainggolan Sentenced To 10 Months In Prison

DEPOK - Member of the Executive Committee of the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (WE) Syahganda Nainggolan was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Judges at the Depok City District Court.

"The defendant was found guilty of a criminal act of broadcasting uncertain or excessive or incomplete news, as the three prosecutors charged with violating Article 15 of Law number 1 of 1946 concerning criminal law regulations against the accused with imprisonment for 10 (ten) months "said Chairman of the Panel of Judges Ramon Wahyudi at the Depok City District Court, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 29.

The verdict hearing at the Depok City District Court was held by teleconference which was attended by the public prosecutor and the defendant's legal advisor in person in the courtroom. Meanwhile, Syahganda Nainggolan attended the trial online from the place where the defendant was being held.

Regarding this decision, the defendant and the public prosecutor both expressed their considerations for an appeal option.

Syahganda Nainggolan was arrested by the police on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his residence in Depok, West Java. Syahganda was arrested for allegedly violating the ITE Law by spreading provocation and sparking a riotous demonstration on the Work Creation Bill in September 2020.
