Soedison Tandra: Asset Confiscation Must Be Regulated, For The Sake Of Justice And Recovery Of State Losses

Member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Soedison Tandra, stated that his party would encourage the acceleration of the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) so that it would immediately roll out in the DPR RI.

The statement was made in response to the commitment of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto who emphasized his support for the bill in his speech at the commemoration of World Labor Day, Thursday, May 1.

"Moreover, now the second one he said that, which we will really, really encourage," said Soedison in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, May 2.

According to Soedison, the Asset Confiscation Bill is an important part of efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia. Although Indonesia already has the Corruption Crime Law and the KPK Law, there is no special regulation regarding the confiscation of assets until now.

He explained that this new regulation is important to provide legal certainty against types of assets that can be confiscated by the state in the context of law enforcement, especially in corruption cases.

"This asset Confiscation is very important to regulate. Do not let the confiscation of assets be carried out without fulfilling the element of a sense of justice," he said.

Currently, the Criminal Procedure Code does regulate the confiscation of goods resulting from crime or criminal means, but has not provided sufficient space for the recovery of state losses from criminal acts of corruption through optimal confiscation of assets.

"With this law, we can recover the state's losses as much as possible. This is very important for eradicating corruption to its roots," Soedison continued.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in his speech on Labor Day stated explicitly his support for the Asset Confiscation Bill. According to him, there should be no compromise on corruptors, especially those who are reluctant to return the proceeds of crime.

"In order to eradicate corruption, I support the Asset Confiscation Act," said the President in front of thousands of workers at Monas Square.

With strong signals from the executive and support from the DPR, the ratification of this bill is expected to be accelerated in the future session.
