Retired TNI Suggests Gibran To Be Removed, Defense Minister Sjafrie: We Hear All Senior Inputs

JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin responded to the issue of impeachment of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, which was proposed by the Retired Forum for TNI Soldiers. Minister of Defense Sjafrie stated that his party listened to all input from seniors.

Defense Minister Sjafrie said the proposal would be studied in depth before further discussion. Especially regarding the alleged violation of Gibran's candidacy as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia in the 2024 presidential election.

"We heard all the input from Retired seniors for us to study more deeply. Which one is productive and which one is possible, we cannot hold further discussions," said Defense Minister Sjafri at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 30.

"We respect what the elders think," he continued.

Nevertheless, Defense Minister Sjafrie ensured that the contents of the impeachment of Vice President Gibran would not interfere with the solidity of the Prabowo cabinet and government.

"There is nothing (disrupted solidity, ed). The solidity of the government has been seen where the people unite. The important people are the affairs of the food of the council and clothing has been completed," said the Minister of Defense.

It is known, the issue of the impeachment of Gibran emerged from the Retired Forum of TNI Soldiers since February 2025. The forum, which consists of 103 retired generals, 73 executives, 65 marginals, and 91 colonels, filed a lawsuit with the MPR to dismiss Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

A number of Retired TNI employees have classy positions in the previous government. They are Indonesian Vice President of the Soeharto Era in 1993-1998, Try Sutrisno and Former Minister of Religion, Fachrul Razi who only served as Minister of Religion for 1 year in the era of President Jokowi.

They conveyed open demands to Prabowo Subianto as President-elect. In the statement, they urged the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) to take steps to replace the elected Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, on the pretext that his nomination process was considered unlawful.
