Realization Of The New TNI Official House 45 Percent, Minister Of Defense: This Is A Land Problem
JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin revealed the big challenge in providing official housing for Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers. Of the total ideal needs of around 500 thousand units, only about 45 percent or 224,756 housing units have been successfully realized.
This statement was conveyed by Defense Minister Sjafrie during a meeting with Commission I of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 30.
"Talking about the facilities of soldiers, especially official houses, I want to convey that our needs are quite large. But the realization is only around 45 percent," said Sjafrie at the meeting.
He said the gap between the number of available houses and the ideal need was quite large. The government, he continued, has made efforts to meet these needs, one of which is by collaborating with the Ministry of Public Housing.
However, this effort has not been maximized due to land problems. Land belonging to the TNI which was originally intended to be used for the construction of soldiers' houses was also needed for military operational purposes.
"We have indeed collaborated with the Ministry of Public Housing. But the use of land belonging to the TNI for official houses also faces obstacles because the land is needed for operational purposes," explained Sjafrie.

He emphasized that this issue is still under further discussion within the Ministry of Defense and the TNI.
"This is a part that we are continuing to discuss and find a solution," he concluded.
