Once Rejected Intimate Scenes, Penn Badgley Reveals Reasons To Change His Mind
JAKARTA - Penn Badgley once shocked the public after stating that he refused to have sex scenes for the series or films he starred in. However, everything changed when he returned to play Joe Goldberg in the fifth season of the You series.
The fifth season, which has been the last season, is said to have sex scenes by Joe Goldberg, a character played by Penn Badgley.
Of course, this is different from what he said in 2023. At that time, this Gossip Girl alumni said he refused to have sex scenes in the future because he felt disturbed considering that he was older than some of his co-stars in the You series.
'My solidarity in relationships. That's important to me and actually, that's one of the reasons why I initially wanted to refuse that role. I didn't tell anyone about it. But that's the reason," he quoted People as saying.
Unlike in the fifth season, Penn Badgley finally answered why he ended up having sex scenes in the last season. Fans found his character doing the scene.
"I have to throw that (principle) out," Penn Badgley said in his latest interview.

"Indeed, that is the question. Do I want to do it? And I always say, my desire to minimize it as much as possible, but if the scene is important, that's what we're going to do, so we make sure the scene is important, and we do it," he explained.
In the final season of the You series, Joe Goldberg started a relationship with a woman named Bronte (Madeline Brewer) who is a new employee at Joe's bookstore. However, Joe discovered the fact that Bronte wanted revenge.
Penn Badgley explained that he had to shape Joe's character as a romantic figure so as to show his love for his partner. He also admitted that he would miss the role that made his name more popular.
"He's a deep experience for me. He's not a real person so what do I do? I've been doing this for 30 years. I was 30 when I took on his role. I'll be 39 this year," said Penn Badgley.
I became a father when I starred in this series. I just got married when I took on his role so I grew up very much with Joe in a foreign way. He taught me to be a man knowing what I didn't, of course, don't kill. It's very clear," he said.
