Education Still Prone To Corruption, KPK Urges Character Improvement To Governance

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) provided three recommendations for improvement after the 2024 Education Integrity Assessment Survey (SPI) score showed 69.05, an achievement that is still in the corrective category.

KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto said the three dimensions that are of concern to be improved are individual character, education ecosystem, and education unit management. He made this statement at a press conference at the KPK Anti-Corruption Education Center Building, Jakarta.

These three dimensions are the keys to fostering strong integrity in the education system. Without improvement in these aspects, anti-corruption education is difficult to fully internalize," said Setyo.

The 2024 SPI survey involved 36,888 educational units and 449,865 respondents. The 69.05 score puts Indonesia's education in the corrective' zone above the vulnerability, but has not yet reached the adaptive, strong, or resilient category.

Deputy for Education and Community Participation of the KPK, Wawan Wardiana, explained that the first dimension, namely individual character, can be improved through the program to strengthen the value of integrity in students' daily lives.

"Education units must actively develop programs that form honesty and the responsibility of students from an early age," said Wawan.

He also added the importance of holistic evaluation to design an anti-corruption education strategy that is right on target.

In the dimensions of the education ecosystem, the KPK emphasizes the importance of collaboration between stakeholders who adjust the needs of each party, especially in dealing with changes in the learning process.

"The goal is to keep all parties relevant and continue to make a positive contribution," added Wawan.

Meanwhile, for the governance dimension, the KPK encourages education units to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of existing management practices by involving educators, guardians of students, and school leaders.

"There needs to be routine training and socialization to build awareness that governance integrity is an important foundation in education," he explained.

The KPK hopes that this recommendation can be immediately followed up by coaching agencies and educational units, so that the future SPI education reflects a cleaner, honest and responsible learning environment.
