YOGYAKARTA - As a Muslim, gratitude is a form of obedience and piety to Allah SWT. However, some people are still not difficult to be grateful for their condition. There are several ways of gratitude to Allah that can be done to train habit of gratitude.
Gratitude is a reflection of the heart that recognizes all blessings from God, and uses it in the way that He pleases. In the Qur'an, Allah repeatedly ordered His servants to be grateful. Gratitude is one way to get closer to Him and gain blessings of life.
Thank God not only for saying 'Alhamdulillah' when receiving blessings, but also for covering attitudes, actions, and thoughts that we remember that what we have comes from God. As a Muslim who puts his trust in Allah, let's understand how to be grateful to God that can be applied in everyday life.
Gratitude is also a form of acknowledgment for the greatness and generosity of Allah, as well as a sign of the humility of a servant who realizes his weaknesses in the presence of Almighty God.
The following are ways of gratitude to Allah that need to be understood as well as applied by every Muslim:
The first step to be grateful to Allah is to realize and recognize the blessings that have been given by Him. Every second of life, from the air we touch, health, food, to the opportunity to worship. Everything is a form of God's love for His servants.

And He has given to you (your need) of everything you ask Him for. And if you count the blessings of Allah, surely you will not be able to count them. (QS. Ibrahim: 34)
Saying thank you to Allah can be done by increasing the sentence of praise and dhikr such as 'Alhamdulillah'. This remark shows that we are aware of the coming of blessings from Allah and we appreciate it.
Rasulullah SAW said:
"Indeed, Allah is pleased with His servants who if they eat something he praises Him, and if they drink he praises Him." (HR Muslim)
Make it a habit to say 'Alhamdulillah' in various circumstances, whether it is good to receive sustenance, to be given convenience, even when facing a test, because everything comes from God.
Gratitude is not enough just to say, but must also be proven by deeds of charity. One way is to use the blessings given by Allah for the things that are pleasing. For example, using wealth for alms, using time to worship, or maintaining health with a good lifestyle.
Prophet Dawud AS is known as a prophet who is very grateful. Allah bless you in QS. Saba' paragraph 13:
"Work, Dawud's family to be grateful (to Allah). And very few of my servants are grateful."
Gratitude is not only done when you get a favor, but also when tested with difficulties. In Islam, patience and gratitude are two sides of faith. When a Muslim is able to be patient in the face of trials, in fact he is showing his gratitude to Allah for all His destiny.
Rasulullah SAW said:
"It's amazing the affairs of the believers. In fact, everything is good. If he gets pleasure, he's grateful, and it's good for him. If he's in trouble, he's patient, and it's also good for him." (HR Muslim)
One of the most important forms of gratitude is to increase worship of Allah. Timely prayers, reading the Qur'an, praying, and increasing sunnah practice are ways to show our gratitude spiritually.
The Prophet SAW himself, even though it was guaranteed by heaven, continued to pray more at night. When asked by his wife Aisyah RA why he was so diligent, the Prophet replied:
Don't I want to be a grateful servant? (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
This teaching shows that worship is the highest form of gratitude by people who truly love Allah.
