Inspired By Atta Halilintar, Rival Sumigar Leaves The Office World To Become A Content Creator
JAKARTA - Rivel Sumigar is the name that managed to steal the attention of netizens on social media. The content displayed is in great demand, which can be seen from the number of followers of 22.5 million on TikTok and 3.8 million on Instagram.
Although not from around the entertainment world, the man whose real name is Cikel Herman Hendrik Sumigar, managed to align with many Indonesian artists in terms of attracting netizens.
The content that Rivel makes is often viral. On TikTok, most of its content reaches millions of views, not even a few that reach tens of millions of views. With the success it is currently achieving, Rivel admits that his journey is not as smooth as imagined.
Born and raised in Manado, North Sulawesi, Rival was an office worker in Bogor. The length of his career went smoothly and the salary earned was quite large.
However, there is one thing that disturbs him when he sees Atta Halilintar who has succeeded as a YouTuber. Inspired by Aurel Hermansyah's husband, Rivel decided to start creating content on YouTube.
Initially, Rival only created simple tutorial content around the Android app. The result was nil during the first seven months, but his efforts paid off after almost a year of continuing to be consistent. From YouTube, he started producing coffers, from hundreds of thousands to IDR 18 million per month.
"My office salary at that time was already tens of millions, but the income from YouTube was even higher. That's where I started to rethink my future," Rival told the media crew in Jakarta, Friday, April 18.
Confident in his new job as a content creator, Rival decided to quit his office. His income continues to increase.
However, other difficulties must be faced. YouTube's revenue slowly decreased, and fell in early 2023, with revenue of only IDR 5 million per month.
Even though at that time, Rival was building his parents' house in the village. The idea of returning to being an office worker had time to pass.
If I return to being an employee, the construction of the house will definitely stop. I have to find another way," he recalled.
A new breakthrough was chosen. Rival chose TikTok as the medium of being creative. With loan money from friends and the proceeds of pawning cars, he creates content to distribute money in Manado.
Initially Rival distributed Rp100'200 thousand to people he met, and the effect was extraordinary. Within three months, his TikTok account shot up to one million followers. Four months later, the amount of money distributed increased, as well as the number of followers.
But other challenges must be faced. The content is often called fake and the results of the settings. A new strategy was chosen. He began to share cellphones and recipients immediately unboxed on the spot.
This content has gone viral. With millions of followers, he also used his account to sell, which is his main income at this time.
"I just want to show that we can share sincerely, without having to be considered fake," he said.
