Manchester United's Journey To Europa League Semifinals Can Forget The Bad Season For A Moment

JAKARTA - Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim admitted that his team's brilliant victory in the Europa League over Lyon and stepped into the semifinals made his troops forget their gloomy season for a moment.

Harry Maguire's header in the 121st minute extra time saw the Red Devils advance to the semifinals, having trailed 2-4 as the changing tense match near its climax.

However, domestically, Manchester United have had a sad season. The 20-time major league champion is set for their worst Premier League points in history, currently in 14th place in the Premier League standings.

Winning the Europa League is their only hope of returning to the Champions League next season, a possibility that is somehow still their target.

"The sound of the last two goals was amazing, it was something we could save for the future."

"I think that's why we really like this sport. All the frustration the coach has experienced this season, frustration, bad moments, when you have moments like this, everything is worth it."

"A moment like this can help a lot of players this season. They can create relationships with supporters. We forgot for a moment about what season we've been through," Amorim said.

Maguire's centre-back spent most of the last moments as a striker, with a lack of choice of amorious strikers on the pitch.

This isn't the first time Maguire has been asked to fulfill such a role this season. Amory insists that he may have to return to play the England international.

"To play a normal game from the start, no (Maguire will not play). However, at times like this, it is something very important."

"When I saw Harry Maguire and I put him as a striker, I saw only one person in the penalty box, was he good or not in the box?"

"If he is in the opponent's penalty box, he is an attacker, not a defender, he knows how to behave in that space. It's just to put different characteristics and moments," said Amorim again.
