Simulation Becomes Preparation For The Indonesian Team Ahead Of The 2025 Sudirman Cup

JAKARTA - The Indonesian badminton team will show off at the 2025 Sudirman Cup which will take place at the Fenghuang Gimnasium, Xiamen, China 27 April-4 May. PP PBSI prepares a match simulation to anticipate the fierceness of the competition.

The plan is that the simulation will take place next week with the aim of honing the cohesiveness of the athletes, considering that the Sudirman Cup is a mixed team championship that demands teamwork.

"There will be simulations, and we will also invite the media. There are simulations, there are releases as well. We will inform you in the near future," said PBSI Deputy General Chair I of PP Taufik Hidayat at the Kemenpora Office, citing ANTARA on Friday, April 18.

According to Taufik, the team's condition is generally ready to compete, especially for players who did not appear in the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) last week.

Taufik, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, hopes that the 13 athletes who have been selected to strengthen the Indonesian team in the 2025 Sudirman Cup will be able to unite and support each other.

"This is a team match, not an individual. So everyone must support each other. Those who don't play must keep the spirit. Because not all will compete," he said.

PBSI lowered the combination of senior and junior players to face the biennial team championship.

Head of the Development and Achievement Division of PP PBSI Eng Hian said the Red and White team had prepared a mature strategy to face competition in the D group stage against Denmark, India, and England.

"This is not an easy draw for us, but we have prepared ourselves as well as possible to compete in the Sudirman Cup. The composition of players entering the team is a combination of senior players and young Indonesian players," said Eng Hian.

He added that the selection of players was carried out based on individual achievement, regeneration process, and readiness to face team matches. For the double sector, an additional criterion is the flexibility of players to pair with different pairs.

In the single sector, Jonatan Christie and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung are relied on as the backbones in the men's and women's numbers. In addition, Alwi Farhan, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, and Putri Kusuma Wardani were also brought to add to their experience in world level team competitions.

"Seeing the progress and achievements of these three single players, I feel it's time for them to enter the Sudirman Cup squad. This is also part of the regeneration process and hone their mentality in the team championship," said Eng Hian.

He also said that the target of the Indonesian team in the 2025 Sudirman Cup was to penetrate the podium. However, he emphasized that the main focus now is to escape the group stage.
